Revenue leakage

Revenue leakage is revenue a company has earned but does not bill, collect or keep.

Why Revenue leakage matters to internal audit and controllers

Leakage is hard to see because the missing money never reaches the ledger. Nothing in the accounts looks wrong.

Common causes are price increases never applied, discounts outside agreed terms, promotions paid on sales that do not qualify, unchecked refunds and chargebacks, and services delivered but never billed.

The data sits in two places: contracts and promotion terms are documents, invoices and receipts are in the ERP. Finding leakage means joining them.

An example

A consumer goods company runs a quarterly discount for distributors. A distributor claims the discount on sales made after it ended. The claim is paid because nobody checks the sale dates against the terms.

How IRAME handles it

In IRAME's AR and revenue assurance, IRA, IRAME's agentic AI, checks claims, receipts, refunds and chargebacks against agreed terms. GenAI reads the contract or scheme terms and joins them to ERP data. For a retail franchise network, IRAME validated 1,500+ trade schemes, with claim verification about 95% faster.
