Why Audit trail matters to internal audit and controllers
Auditors use it to trace a number to its source and to see whether an authorized person made a change at the right time.
There is a second trail: the audit work itself. An external auditor relying on a test needs the data, the logic and the result, and must be able to repeat it and get the same answer.
Some regulators require the system trail. In India, accounting software must keep an edit log that cannot be switched off, under the Companies (Accounts) Rules.
Gaps in either trail cause the same problem. The work may be right, but nobody can show it.
An example
A customer's credit limit is raised the day before a large sale. The ERP's edit log shows the user, the time, and the old and new values. Internal audit checks whether an approved request sits behind the change.
How IRAME handles it
IRAME saves and versions every control, prompt and business rule that IRA, its AI auditor, runs. The same data and control give the same result every run, so your external auditor can re-perform it.
